Amotekun : Ondo, Oyo, Osun, Lagos and Ogun Pass Amotekun's Bill
Five of the six Houses of Assembly in the South-West geo-political zone yesterday gave legal teeth to the State Security Network Agency otherwise known as Amotekun as they passed the Corp’s Bill 2020 into law.
The passage came barely 19 days after the assemblies received the bill on the South West joint Security Outfit, Operation Amotekun from their various executive arms of government.
In Ogun, the bill entitled “HB No 35/OG/2020- A Bill for a law to establish the Ogun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps to Assist in Maintaining Law and Order in the State and Connected Purposes,” was passed yesterday during a plenary presided over by the Speaker Olakunle Oluomo.
It followed presentation of a report of Special Ad hoc Committee on Security and Strategy by Majority Leader Yusuf Sherif.
The Speaker, thereafter, directed that the clean copy of the bill be forwarded to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, for his assent.
Oyo State House of Assembly was not different as it passed the bill proposed by Governor Seyi Makinde for the establishment of Oyo State Security Network Agency otherwise called “Amotekun Corps into law.”
The passage followed presentation of the report of the House Committee on Security and Special Duties at the plenary.
Also, the Ondo State House of Assembly yesterday passed the bill for a law to establish the State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Bill.
The Assembly had on 18th February, 2020 deliberated on the bill and committed it to the House Committee on Security Matters after scaling through first and second reading and had its public hearing on 24th February, 2020.
The Majority Leader, Mr. Jamiu Maito, had moved a motion for the bill to be submitted by the Chairman of the House Committee on Security Matters, Hon. Ololade Begudu, and it was seconded by Hon. Favour Tomowemo representing Ilaje 2.
Mr. Bode Adeyelu read the bill for third reading, with Maito moving the motion for its passage while it was seconded by Leonard Akinribido, the Deputy Minority Leader.
In Lagos, it was history made as it joined its sisters’ Assemblies to pass theAmotekun bill into law.
The Assembly, however, yesterday unanimously passed the bill on Amotekun, a security outfit of the South West as a special unit of the Lagos State Neighborhood Safety Corps.
