Former UNILAG Lecturer sentenced to 21 years imprisonment for raping a prospective student

On Thursday an Ikeja High Court sentenced a once part-time lecturer in the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akin Baruwa, to 21 years imprisonment for raping an 18-year-old prospective student.
While Justice Josephine Oyefeso passing is judgment described Baruwa's action as inhuman. Justice Oyefeso maintained that the sentence should serve as a lesson and discouragement to others.
She said, “The offence committed against this young lady was a desecration of her modesty which would have left vast emotional wounds from which I pray and hope she will overcome.
“I cannot start to ween the physical and mental distress she has had to undergo from the man whom she considered her father’s friend, a neighborhood leader who should have known better. What a disgrace.
“This is a crime that not only annoys the survivor, it annoys her family, it annoys the humanity at large, it also annoys God
